There have been recent incidents involving fire in coaches, which have led to loss of precious human life. Senior level enquiries have revealed that such incidents have been caused due to illegal carriage of inflammable articles by some passengers during their journey on trains and can be prevented to a large extent if information regarding such passengers is forthcoming during the course of journey itself.
In view of the above, SCR has recently launched a wide publicity campaign through various media advising the Rail Passengers not to carry inflammables / explosive materials like Fire Crackers, Gun Powder, Petrol, Diesel, Kerosene, Acid, LPGor Gas Cylinders / Stoves etc.,which endangers the safetyof the Passengers and Railway assets.
Carriage of inflammables / explosives / any such material in passenger trains is a punishable offence under Section 164 of the Railways Act, 1989, which entails imprisonment extending upto 3 years or fine up to Rs. 1000/- or both, besides being liable for loss/damage.
While Railways continue to take up special safety drives / intensive checks against the carriage of such material, alertness from passengers will also help in preventing any such deeds.
In case Passengers notice carriage of any inflammables / firecrackers / explosive materials on trains or at stations by any co-passenger, they are requested not to ignore and to please alert the nearest available Railway Staff or convey the same through a phone call or by an SMS to the Railway Administration on the exclusive contact numbers mentioned below to initiate prompt action.
